My Treatment Approach.
I aim to promote a welcoming space for our work together by being kind, thoughtful, and patient. I fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of the nearly silent psychoanalyst who doesn’t react to anything you say, and the overbearing therapist who talks the entire session, tells you what they think you should do, and won’t let you get a word in! In my therapy practice, I draw most heavily from the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and lifestyle medicine.
What might this look like in our work together?
When making an assessment, I first seek to understand your perception of the problem, and I will gather more information to understand the influence of biological factors (like medical conditions or hormonal changes), psychological factors (like mindsets or emotional triggers you have developed), and social factors (like the quantity and quality of your relationships, or the current socio-political climate). The connection between mind and body is very important and often neglected, so we will also discuss ways to improve mental and physical health with incremental modifications to physical movement, nutrition, sleep quality, and stress management.
We will work to identify your core values, and use those as a guiding star to ground you in your daily actions and decision making. Over time, we will work together to acknowledge and process factors outside of your control, and to create and troubleshoot plans for what is within your control at this time. My hope is that you not only get tools to work through your most pressing challenge today, but that you can gain tools and insights that you carry with you going forward.
